Benefits Of Egg Freezing In Your 20s

The honest truth is, the earlier you freeze your eggs the more likely you are to have a successful outcome.

I froze my eggs in my late 20s (28 to be exact). And it is one of the best decisions I ever made for my future self.

I’m in a lot of Facebook groups and online discussion groups about fertility. I’ve read about many women who decided to freeze their eggs in their late 30s and early 40s and had to do multiple rounds to get a lot of eggs.

In some ways, egg freezing is like an insurance policy but in other ways, it’s not. There’s no guarantee you will have a baby once you defrost your eggs and make embryos, BUT if you freeze your eggs when you’re younger you statistically have a MUCH BETTER chance of going on to have a live birth.

I’m passionate about this subject because I have an older cousin who missed her opportunity to have a biological child because she waited too long to think about fertility preservation.

I know egg freezing is expensive and you might be scared because of the hormones you inject yourself with, but it gives you a peace of mind that cannot be bought.

This post is all about the benefits of egg freezing and why you should think about freezing your eggs in your 20s.

The importance of fertility preservation

A woman is born with all the eggs she will ever have. As she gets older, not only does her egg count decrease but so does the egg quality.

Fertility preservation is crucial for women at a younger age, especially if they are not planning to have children right away. By preserving their eggs or embryos through egg freezing, women can better preserve their fertility potential and have more options in the future.

In 2022, Jennifer Aniston told Allure that she regretted not freezing her eggs, stating, “I wish someone had told me about the importance of fertility preservation when I was younger.”

Her statement highlights the critical importance of empowering women with knowledge about their fertility preservation options from an early age.

Egg freezing can provide you with a sense of control over your reproductive choices and alleviate the pressure to have children before you are ready.

Growing trend of egg freezing

The number of women opting to freeze their eggs has been steadily rising year-after-year.

Egg freezing allows you more time to pursue your personal and professional goals before having children. It also offers hope to women facing medical treatments that could impact their fertility, such as chemotherapy or radiation therapy.

Biological clock and decline in fertility with age

Have you ever wondered why women are constantly told about their biological clock ticking? Well, the truth is, that fertility does decline with age. As women get older, the quantity and quality of their eggs decrease, making it harder to conceive. And it’s not just a small decline – it’s a significant drop in fertility, especially after the age of 35. This decline can lead to difficulties in getting pregnant and an increased risk of miscarriage and birth defects.

A woman’s fertility actually starts to decline slightly around the age of 32, according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. (My reproductive endocrinologist advised me to freeze my eggs before I turned 32.)

Despite advancements in reproductive technology, the impact of the biological clock on fertility cannot be completely overcome. Women need to be aware of their fertility window and make informed choices about starting a family.
