I Had The Pleasure Of Working On The 2016 Election
All I wanted to do was work on the 2016 election. I would talk about it all the time in college. When I was an intern at NBC I told everyone that I would do anything to work on the election. Now I can’t wait for it to be over.
I have definitely put my life on pause these past 18 months. Of course I still did things and went places but my full attention has been to working this election. I’ll be completely honest here…at times I hated being part of the media. It’s been rough, tiring and sometimes depressing. But at the end of the day I am so grateful to have gotten this opportunity.
I think the most important personal lesson I’ve learned is that my career cannot be my life. I pride myself on being ambitious and doing well in my professional life. But it can’t be the only thing I pride myself in. There were times I missed doing what I love like going to yoga class because I was “too busy” watching a politician on T.V. just hoping that they would make news. I feel like I lost sight of what was important to me.
On the flip side, I got to pat myself on the back. Never in my wildest dreams would I think I would cover Bernie Sanders during the South Carolina primary or cover the Democratic National Convention in Philly. Just this past week, I published my first reported piece for HuffPost! Read it here. Sometimes I have to pinch myself and ask if this was really my life.
BLOG UPDATES
Now that this election is slowly but surely about to be behind us I want to share with you all some of my plans!
Making Girl with Drive a real brand. I’ve had this blog since 2012 but I’ve never dedicated the love and energy it takes to make it something. I love how many people my blog helps and I know I can reach more people. I feel like the “influencer” market is really saturated with beauty and fashion blogs right now and my blog is more geared towards the career girl. Expect a lot more blog posts, Instagram pictures and goodness. (Don’t get me wrong though, I have plenty of fashion blogs bookmarked on my computer 😀.)
Thanks for all your support and stay tuned!
Stay driven
